Top House Tracks March 2011

“Circle of Love feat. Fadila” (Original Mix) by Tale of Us [Visionquest]
This level of musicality could easily find itself in a dark basement jazz club. Instead, the production duo of Karm and Matteo serve up a snappy four on the floor kick, a deep but melodic bassline, and intricately programmed percussion to accentuate the sultry female vocal.

“Around the World” (Original Mix) by DJ Prinz [Push It Records]
The clever use of the Daft Punk sample only provides a subtle hook to keep listeners engaged in this otherwise insistent, big room-type track. Rolling bass, tribal-style percussion, and a repetitive, filtered synth stab make this a winner!

“Gotta Have House” (Original Mix) by BlackWhited [Broken Records]
This Belgian production team takes the original Marshall Jefferson classic acapella to anew level for a new era of house music. The familiar vocal chant is laid over a modern peak hour track with stabs that harken back to the original’s piano chords and a hands in the air break that will no one will be able to resist.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Grotto Gig, Saturday 3/26

Saturday, March 26th at The Grotto, New Haven, CT.

The Grotto is a chill little spot below Bespoke restaurant  on College St.  The focus is on great house music (of course) but the space really lends itself to meeting new people and having some great conversation.  So, we’ll keep the music front and center but not overwhelming.

Plus, I’m honored to be playing with some great friends and DJs Jon Blanchard, Steve Gionfriddo and Shana Montefusco.

Hit me up for details and hope to see you!

Top House Tracks January 2011

“El Tattoo” (Original Mix) by Jeff Mason & Chris Vench [Dirty Deluxe Records]
Dirty Deluxe is peaking right now with another solid, tech groover. This one lays off the acoustic drums in favor of mangled guitar samples and superbly processed vocal snippets. The well-timed break is makes the pounding beat rock even harder.

“U Know” (Original Mix) by Jet Project [Snatch! Records]
This duo of Timmy Stewart and John McIver keep things minimal and hypnotic with a straight ahead house beat and a nagging bass line. The soulful and familiar male vocal (think late 90s R&B) drives the track along with some leftfield synth flourishs.

“Hello” (Original Mix) by Martin Solveig and Dragonette [Big Beat Record]
This song wins the award for catchiest vocal of the month. The 80s influence is undeniable with a Go-Go-ish beat and nasally female vocal. Given current trends, the underlying house beat will definitely appeal to a wide audience. Good luck getting this out of your head!
